Socio-Ecological Systems Division
Fisheries resources fluctuate not only as a result of fishing activities, but also due to relationships among various organisms that constitute ecosystems, as well as environmental changes that influence those relationships. In addition, societal demand for fisheries resources—which affects fishing activities—also varies greatly depending on social conditions. In other words, fisheries operate within a system that encompasses both human society and ecosystems.
The Socio–Ecological Systems Division conducts research and development related to fisheries systems, including stock assessment of fisheries resources and studies aimed at elucidating the interactions between marine ecosystems and socio‑economic activities associated with fisheries and aquaculture.
